This is a tale of two stories with a big disconnect. The study I am referencing here documents the widespread contamination of fish in our US waters and the oceans in general. It infers that there is NO LONGER available fish that do not have some level of concentrated mercury poison in their system. The inference here is that this is an increased health hazard for those that eat fish on a regular basis. Mercury is a neurotoxin and kills. That is what the World Health Organization and the EPA (Environmental Health Agency) say.
The second story published earlier in the year is that on the FDA (the Food and Drug Administration) and its edict that mercury containing Silver Amalgams are safe in the mouth. But, the EPA and even the ADA (American Dental Association) have strict safety guidelines on how to dispose of the “toxic” waste and even amalgam fillings that have been removed from teeth. Ok. Let’s repeat that Safe in the mouth but not in fish, or out of the mouth.
Are you scratching your head yet? Mercury is a poison and regardless of what the drug industry lobby and the ADA and its lobby have influenced the FDA to say; it is still a poison. Don’t let any dentist put it in your teeth. If you eat fish, make sure you eat a lot of sulfur containing foods (Celantro, Garlic, onions, curciforms to help remove the mercury from your body. Lipoic acid and Selenium supplements help also. If you take fish oils for the Omega 3 fatty acids, try to get one that is assayed for mercury or mercury free.
