This last month, I have replaced 18 anteriors veneers that other dentist have done in the last 12 months.  Two of the three patients that I replaced the cosmetic veneers on had come to see me but gone elsewhere because of price.  Now the saddest thing of all is that they are paying for them twice.

It is not that these veneers were clinical failures, they just weren’t attractive and did not meet the patient’s expectations regarding shape, size and color.  Before I ever start a Cosmetic Makeover, we take study models, do records, decide whether the patient is a good candidate for cosmetic veneers and what kind of veneers and then I do a Cosmetic Wax Up of what the veneers should look like in the patient’s mouth.

We remove all the unknowns and settle on the particulars BEFORE we start the case.  Next we choose the dental laboratory that will do the veneers.  Not all dentist are equally trained and qualified and certainly not all dental laboratories are either.  In the past, I have taken the same patient’s case and sent it to several different cosmetic laboratories and then compared the end products.  There are big differences in laboratory skills and artistic ability.

As I started this blog post of with a question but is is really a statement.  It is:

“The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is gone”

Remember that when you are looking for a bargin in Cosmetic Dentistry, Heart Surgery or Parachute Packing.
